6 Bessonette Bale
A special method of baling raw cotton. The ginned cotton is pressed into a continuous sheet and then wound round a core producing a cylindrical bale of 22-in. diameter and 34-in. or 48-in. long. The weights are 275-lb. and 425-lb. according to length. There are not ties used and the bale is covered with bagging. -
7 Lowry Bale
A cylindrical bale of cotton formed from a continuous flat coil of cotton, fastened with wire ties and wrapped in bagging. The weight is about 250-lb. -
8 Overtaring
A cotton, market -term. Means that the seller has weighed a lot of jute bagging at the price of cotton. The allowance for covers or tares is 4 per cent, the bands are deducted separately, and as they can be counted and the weight is known (10 weigh 11-lb.) usually there is seldom any trouble with them. -
9 Silvalin
A yarn manufactured from cellulose pulp, wood, bamboo, cotton, linen, jute, waste or any vegetable fibre. It is made under the Kron patented method of manufacture which has been very successful in Germany. Fabrics made of 100 per cent Silvalin include mattings, carpets, bagging, druggets, braids and cords. Others with 25 per cent to 50 per cent cotton warp are tapestries, chair covers, cretonnes, bedticks, tablecloths, etc. Fabrics of jute, wool and flax warps with Silvalin weft have also been made. -
10 Auquili
Coarse bagging made in Syria; the better grades dyed blue or are partly white and always mixed with cotton. -
11 Limoges
A style of ticking for mattress covering made on the Continent in widths 50 in. to 72-in. Five-end warp satin weave in gaily coloured stripes. Mostly of cotton with a glazed finish. This term is also applied to a coarse bagging in France made of a strong hemp yarns. -
12 Tare
The bagging and ties used for covering cotton and wool bales. The weight varies from 1 per cent to 5 per cent of the total.
